Windows 10 support ends in October 2025

As Windows 11 marks its fourth birthday, Windows has announced that it is ending general support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.

What does “end of support” mean for you?

After October 14, 2025, computers running Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, or assisted support from Microsoft. While your computer will continue to function, it will become increasingly vulnerable to security risks such as viruses and malware that continue to be developed by malicious actors.

What are your options?

To continue using your Windows PC securely and to benefit from the latest features and performance improvements, we strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 11. If your PC is eligible, upgrade to Windows for free via Settings > Privacy and Security > Windows Update. A move to Windows 11 not only ensures your security but also introduces a refreshed interface and new functionalities designed for today’s hybrid work environments.

If your current hardware is not compatible, you should invest in a new device that supports Windows 11. Your PC is probably more than seven years old, incompatible with many common software updates, and sluggish to use even with the applications that do work. From here on, it’s only going to get worse.

Next steps

That said, if you simply can’t transition to a new computer right away, or if you have a Windows 10 device running legacy apps that are critical to your business, Microsoft is offering the option to purchase Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10. This program will provide critical security updates for up to three years, giving you more time to plan your upgrade. It’s important to note, however, that the ESU program does not include feature updates or technical support.

Is your PC ready for Windows 11?

If you purchased your PC in 2017 or later, chances are it can run Windows 11. To find out if your current PC is eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 11, you can use Microsoft’s PC Health Check app. This tool will analyze your system and let you know if it meets the necessary requirements. For more information on the upgrade process and to download the app, please visit the official Microsoft Windows 11 page. Taking proactive steps now will ensure a seamless and secure transition.
