Not 100% sure, but I think this Kottke article refers to both my parent's friend (and fellow Buffy fan) Mark Bernstein as well as a blast-from-past (As in Buck's Rock Summer Camp) Alissa Quart. If it is the same person, I do have to say she looks rather different than she did at 13.

Just back from Berlin last night. Posted a few first teaser photos at Flickr. We stayed at the Hotel Greifswald and I would certainly stay there again; the breakfasts were great (And served until noon every day. Great coffee, especially.) and all of the staff at the desk were charming. Magically, the hotel was just a short stroll from Miranda, Jurgen, and Nina's home and so they had great advice for spots in the 'hood to hit.

I'm thinking the sweet spot for Java isn't the desktop, despite all the early attention to it as a Microsoft workaround, but mobile devices. It's what makes Google Maps for mobile devices possible, it's what makes a large number of the games work on a wide-range of devices. And it's what makes impressive (though not of direct interest to me) apps like MusicStation possible without absurd development expenses or only a narrow range of supported devices.

  • Ok, so the original is def not strong enough for a Nikon D50. Not sure how I made that error. It is pretty nifty, tho, and great for a normal, small point and shoot (Like a Canon Elph).

  • An offline app to work with Backpack lists.
  • A GTD (Getting Things Done) list manager application for the Mac. The Sync with iCal's todos opens it up to use with my favorite topic of the month, OTA Sync with handhelds.

If you're eager for an iPhone and have a VOIP account somewhere, you might want to try out the iSoftPhone. The name is a bit awful, but highly descriptive.

  • Blog post on using teh web interface for Zimbra offline. It runs a local web server, cache, and sync engine that reconnects to the server and syncs changes when you next go online. Very curious.
