I can only make it to a few of these, but if you're around NYC this week, I put together a little calendar of Chinese New Year events in the neighborhood.

For anyone who uses USB adapters to charge their portable devices (like their iPod, mobile phone, or BlackBerry) this doohickey allows you to drop four standard AA batteries inside and charge away. A handy solution for travelers.

It's a wacky idea, but I am so all for it. A company is trying to gauge how much of an audience there would be for a second season of FireFly. If you want a second season, go fill in the form.

Best business card concept ever: A laser cut lockpick set. Fantastic. I'd love one.

Who else wants to try and make a Dorodango (A shiny ball of mud). I'm not sure if this is real, but I'm intrigued. . .

This one gave me the shivers. I'm not a big fan of Le Corbusier and someone else I know names Don Quixote as their favorite text. But to the best of my knowledge, no one I know has had their copy bound in the fur of a deceased pet. Thank goodness.

Every once in a while you come across one of those odd moments when the blogosphere (brought to my doorstep by kottke's link feed) shows up with something that just looks, well, interesting. The expression on her face is something else.

Well I'll be damned. SciFi has picked up the most recent BBC Doctor Who series and will be airing them starting in March. This is the series with Christopher Eccleston as the the Doctor. I've seen two episodes from the series (downloaded of course) and it's fun. It's no Firefly, but still another great jewel in SciFi's crown.

So infinitedly better than using Windows Media Player: Microsoft is now giving Flip4Mac's WMV codec away for free as the Windows Media Components for QuickTime. I like the codec so much I payed $10 for it last year. Now I just want someone to release a Real Component for Quicktime.

Mr. Kottke's Letter to Apple Support says it beautifully. The PowerBook 15in was the last model I expected to get revised first. heck, we just bought one at the office less than a month ago. Personally, I was expecting a single core Intel-based iBook and Mac mini, and for the both current iBooks and the PowerBook 12in to be discontinued. But then again, I was pretty shocked when the announced the G4 Cube. Let's hope these ones work out better.

(from /.) Yes, that is a scanner playing music. Für Elise to be specific. Unexpectedly haunting.
