I saw a version of the Tom-Cruise-hopping-up-and-down-on-Oprah bit but I missed his Matt Lauer interview on psychiatry. In case you did too, I suggest you take a gander at this recreation with Tom played by a five-eyed green alien and Matt played by a three-eyed brown one. I think he does makes a few good points and I would be curious to hear reactions to the idea that one of the factors in a societal rise in depression stems from a decrease in people self-medicating themselves with alcohol. Not sure where I heard that, but it's an interesting notion.
