For everyone who has asked me recently about buying used/inexpensive computers: Apple has some good options available right now. For instance, a refurb 12in iBook (1.2GHz/256MB/CD) is $700.

First off, this one is not safe for work, for my mom, or anyone really. And (or should that be but?) for better or worse, it will likelyy expire in a week or so. It does have some interesting Tantalus/Titus Andronicus references but all-in-all, seems like rather an awful lot of work for revenge. The suffering/humiliation/punishment seems somewhat inverted as well. But, you decide for yourself: Revenge.

For anyone else who finds Apple's increasing flood of new interface elements/designs for it's Apps irritating (Mail was really, really bad), Daring Fireball shows its genius with The iTunes 5 Announcement From the Perspective of an Anthropomorphized Brushed Metal User Interface Theme. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just skip this one, ok?

I know a few writers who work in cafes so this Kottke link to a space/company named Paragraph caught my eye. The idea is that you rent a desk and write there, just like hanging out and writing at Kavehaus/Pecon/Space Untitled, but with a monthly fee, a locker, presumably peace & quiet, and 24 hour access. Not sure that this would be any better than those cafes for the writers I know, but still an interesting parallel. And I've been thinking about those writers a lot lately.

How does a whole industry "sulk?" Is it in the way the roofs on their factories curve over their eyes? Or the way the windows in their corporate offices are downcast and morose? Ok, presumably there is some Korean/English translation slippage here (eg. Key products are spelled two different ways within the article). Also worth note is that Apple is producing a product for half of the cost of existing products -- I enjoyed Mr. Kim's response: “We can hardly declare a price war with Apple. We’ll counter Apple’s challenge by releasing new concept products.” Hm. Good luck with that strategy.
