- 1 for "dyslexic monkey stirrers"
- 1 for "left handed smoke shifters"
- 1 for "monkeys guns butter"
- 1 for "right handed smoke shifters"

finally a mainstream article that just comes right out and says it. Microsoft Windows, Insecure by Design: "In its default setup, Windows XP on the Internet amounts to a car parked in a bad part of town, with the doors unlocked, the key in the ignition and a Post-It note on the dashboard saying, Please don't steal this."

the dearth of virii (viruses?) targetting OS X is something i've been very surprised by. while this article doesn't really answer any questions, it is confirmation that we're talking in the ballpark of 70,000 targetting windows, 50 targetting the classic mac os, and a big fat 0 targetting OS X. now maybe that's just a version of security through anomyniy/small market share, but i suspect it's way more than that. frankly i have a nagging feeling this statement: "Indeed, a Mac has no more inherent security than a PC" is patently untrue -- and i bet this is a major reason: "Apple ships OS X with most of the services hackers typically use to invade a system, such as Web hosting, blocked by a built-in firewall. Although experienced users who need these services can easily turn them on, this Apple policy protects the average Mac user from exposure to the most common attacks. While Windows also has a built-in firewall, by default it has been turned off."
now if you're really interested in more info, the discussions on this book review at slashdot give a pretty savvy answer.

if you, like me, find diamond and the global diamond business really, really creepy, this article on the second diamond age will fill you with glee. just for the record, when it comes time to buy an engagement ring, i'm def not buying a "genuine" natural diamond. maybe a diff stone. . . or maybe a synthetic.

speaking of creepy toys (damn is that an ugly looking thing. not the kid, he's fine) . . . and then there's the lame-ass (a 58in dowel?) and the who-knows-maybe-handy ones (hey, it comes with a "coupon good for one free Little Ninjas lesson").

um, why is a Twin Heather Gray Airbed (with "Built-in Pump") for sale at a toy store? at least it's ages "13 " and, hey, "The included built-in pump is rechargeable - that means you can take this Airbed anywhere and everywhere you go!" . . 'cause you never one when a high school student is going to need a twin bed with only "45 to 60 seconds" notice, right?
