The Macktez Summer Stipend is a grant for creative development. Each year we try to reach out to the many junior designers, interns, and other creative individuals we come across every day for whom a little extra cash could be the difference between a great idea and a great, finished project.
Zoe's project, the Overlooked Newsreader, is a unique combination of commentary, code, and design that our panelists decided would be the perfect recipient of the 2009 Macktez Summer Stipend.
The project is a real-time database of news stories from the New York Times cross-referenced with international news sources, mapped to show Americans all the news they miss in the parts of the world they don't see. Zoe says, "I picture people stopping by there each morning to check what articles their newspaper overlooked."
And don't forget to look out for fortune-telling fish this Halloween.
